My Story: Love Your Way Out of Insecurity, Fear and Stress

Reading time:  minutes

Hi! Nice to meet you!

I promised to tell you a bit more about me. Where do I come from? And how did I get where I am right now, teaching about unconditional love and happiness, coaching people towards their very own essence, guiding them to step into their full potential, their full Magnificence?

Hi! I am Lisette, a very ordinary girl from a little town in the Netherlands. A sensitive girl I was, and already at a young age I noticed the love that would flow to me whenever I did something that pleased others. I hated to feel that love-flow come to a halt, for instance when someone got upset with me. The disapproval would feel like a thunder-bolt straight through my core. And so, when I was about 6 years old, I made a pact with myself: I would always behave nicely, no matter what. That way I would never have to feel hurt anymore.

Another way of not feeling hurt, is to avoid participation altogether. Often I wouldn’t participate in games, just so I couldn’t loose and feel like a failure. I was a happy child, don’t get me wrong! But I was letting myself be lived by my fear. Pleasing people and disappearing into the background (read: safety) was my way of navigating through life for many, many years. Actually, it worked quite well throughout my school time, and even throughout my psychology studies. It worked well, until I got a job. Different people wanted different things. I could work it out for a while, but in the end, the stress levels were just too high, for too long. I collapsed… Burnout!

Now many of you might think of a burnout as something negative, and of course I did as well. I tried my hardest to get back… I was smart, and I could write, so why couldn’t I just write that &#/% article?! I would meet with a psychologist, which just made me feel more “ill”. It took me almost two years to let go… And then, everything finally fell into place! And my life has been so much better ever since…

What happened? In the springtime of 2011, I, “by chance”, found out about a training possibility that would also offer a lot of possibilities for personal growth. I was drawn to it, even though it was given in a for me foreign language, German. This training literally changed my life! During the three years of my True Voice training, I got back in connection with myself. From a place of unconditional love and curiosity, I started to appreciate myself, and even love myself. I started to let go of the fear and stress that had accompanied me for so many years. The self-conscious voice in my head quieted. My body literally let go of the tensions that were stored inside.

What's more, I also got to know more of who I am, for real; surprisingly, things that I was convinced to be characteristics of my personality, turned out to be just fear! It turns out that you better trust your desires than your fears when it comes to who you are...

I started to get to know myself like I had never known myself before. I learned that there was nothing wrong with me, but I was terribly out of place; I’m not supposed to be a researcher doing research about science and technology education… That is not my soul’s calling at all! I’m supposed to help people find themselves! I’m supposed to guide people to their true Essence, so that they get to shine in their lives, in the most authentic way possible! Just like I am doing!

And so I did, and so I do. Since 2012, I have been honored to guide hundreds of people on their path, towards themselves, towards fulfillment. In 2015, I and my husband founded Gaia Center for Wellbeing, to give our healing work a home. I am very grateful for this place! And I am grateful as well for the possibilities the internet is offering us nowadays! After my latest certification last year, and the challenges we’ve been going through globally, I am looking forward to connect with so many wonderful people like you, globally! Isn’t it great that we get to build community and find our tribe across the globe nowadays?

I am living proof that it pays off to be where you belong, and to do what makes your heart sing. When you feel the inner fulfillment, and you receive comments like this from your clients: “What I do in half a year, you do in half an hour!” (from a psychotherapist), or like this: “You are better than your teacher!” (by another psychotherapist, who I actually met in a workshop from my teacher, the founder of True Voice), then you know... When you shine in what you do, almost literally, as it lights you up... When you feel like a fish in the water... Then you simply know that you have found your place. And all that can follow is expansion; more of who you are, more of that Magnificence!

I hope you enjoyed my story! And wherever you feel stuck in your own life, I hope that my story brings you a new perspective to it! There’s a gift in everything! It's all meant to bring you home...

Sending you Unconditional Love, so that you get to be who you in essence already are: completely unique, and wonderfully magnificent!

Is it easy for you to love yourself, no matter what? Did you come home to yourself yet? What is challenging for you? What do you recognize? Drop me a comment below! I love to hear from you!
